https://talktotransformer.com/ is a text completion tool with a difference: it delivers more than just a line, it generates whole paragraphs with eerily good continuity. I wrote the line below in bold and the AI completed the text that followed. (I hit the “generate another” button about 4 times to get to the result below, as some results were less spot on.) The tool was based on an algorithm created by OpenAI.
I was so happy. But then again, was I really happy? I think happiness is subjective.
The truth is, the truth is that there are things that get in your way of enjoying life.
If it’s time to change your life, change your life.
If it’s your time to do something to change your life, do it now.
If it’s a challenge to change your life, do it now.
Your time is now. Try to enjoy it better.
And, what’s better? Your time now or the time you have here with you right now?
It’s not foolproof but then again, the tool we have here is based on a dumbed down version — only half as powerful — of the full version that OpenAI have not released. Which makes me wonder how powerful the full version actually is. It’s probably extremely good, which is why, for fear of misuse, dev guys only have a scaled down version to play with while OpenAI works out the ethical/legal issues surrounding the potential of such technology. I mean, we’re talking about powerful software that has the capacity to teach itself, feeding on vast amounts of data.
“On language tasks like question answering, reading comprehension, summarization, and translation, GPT-2 begins to learn these tasks from the raw text, using no task-specific training data.” — OpenAI
AI writing isn’t actually new. The Washington Post used it to cover the Rio Olympics and US elections in 2016, automating basic reporting. But what will we see, or read rather, a couple of years from now? The future’s still being written.
